At the age of 40 the time had come for me to visit this magic island. I have never regretted my decision! For seven years, in the wintertime, Havana became my Mecca in my search for the secrets of Cuban music.

The presence of their alive traditions, the plentitude of great percussionists and, even more important, of great teachers were the keys to quenching my thirst.

It was an intense time. Cuba is an intense country. My teachers and friends there have deeply touched me. Their lives are truly no piece of cake but despite all the adversities, their laughter, joy and openness is always present.
